Hey everyone! I know it’s been quite a while since you heard
from me, and this will probably be the final time that I write a blog for A
Year Without Shoes. The last of the
money for AYWOS was spent two days ago! It’s very exciting.
AYWOS was able to raise $8,313.31, specifically to buy
shoes. However, there was a surplus in
the money that I raised for travel expenses, and we were able to add $284.27 to
that, giving us a grand total of $8,597.58.
We’re proud to say that all of this money was spent on shoes, in several
places around the world. Specifically,
in three places: Our original
destination, Uganda, as well as Guatemala, and here in the USA. The first shoes were bought in Uganda, 250
pairs. We wanted to buy more, but a lot
of the funds hadn’t come in yet because many people decided to donate late in
the year. We bought these shoes at a
store called Bata in Entebbe, Uganda and they cost $5,371. After this, we realized that we still had
money that we could use to buy more shoes.
We gave the majority of that money to “Kids Alive, International” in
Guatemala to establish a “Shoe Fund.” This is money that will be used
specifically to buy shoes there. Unbeknownst
to us, Kid’s Alive was in the middle of a matching fund program so the $2,800 we
donated there was doubled for a total of $5,600 for shoes in Guatemala! Lastly, we had $426.58 left. We did a little bit of internet research, and
discovered a great organization here in the United States called “Shoes That
Fit”. They work with schools to provide
shoes for students whose families can’t afford them.
I’m very proud of everything that I’ve been able to accomplish
through AYWOS. However, I can’t take
full credit. I had so much help from everyone
around. And most of all: a project like
AYWOS is powered by the people who are willing to donate, and help out in a
great cause. It’s because of your
prayers, support, and donations that this project was able to be so
successful. Thank all of you who donated
so so so much!
